Hey there, since we will be teaming up with Verdn. I thought it would be great to right a little blog on what this means to us and what this could mean for you. When you become apart of the team. What this means is every time you purchase from us, we send a portion of profits from the purchase to Verdn to plant trees and/or remove plastic from our oceans.
You will officially be helping do your part in producing cleaner air and cleaner oceans for the next generations to come.
Some important facts about the impact on our oceans and the air pollution and, why it is important that we all do our little part. We think this is such a great way to do just a little bit, as a little bit can go such a long way.
- Trees do a great job of reducing air pollution and greenhouse gases. Through the process of photosynthesis, trees take up carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, Sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and ozone from the atmosphere.
- It may surprise you to learn that the fashion industry produces about 10 percent of annual global carbon emissions, which is more than all maritime shipping and international flights combined. What's more, fashion's emissions of harmful greenhouse gases are projected to grow by more than 50 percent by 2030.
- Trees reduce the 'Greenhouse' effect by removing carbon dioxide from the air and releasing oxygen. Each year a mature tree produces enough oxygen for 10 people. Trees are also an effective sound barrier and can limit noise pollution. Recent research shows that trees also help reduce the stress of modern life.
- The World’s forests absorb a third of global emissions every year which is great news, as trees grow, they take in carbon from the air and store it in wood, plant matter, and in the soil, making them what scientists call “carbon sinks.” In this way, forests play an important role in the global carbon cycle by soaking up lots of carbon dioxide that would otherwise live in the atmosphere. Such as "Verdn" exist and workday and night to keep our forests also known as "green lungs" breathing.
- A mature Tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a whole year. Trees are important for not only producing clean oxygen required for us to be able to breathe BUT they also act as a filtration system for floating carbons in our atmosphere. They absorb and store the carbon in their wood and release oxygen in return so we can breathe that fresh crisp Mountain air we all know and LOVE.
- 12 million tons of plastic finds its way into the ocean every single year. 9.5 million tons of this enters the ocean from the land with 1.75 tons being chucked into the sea directly from the fishing a shipping industry. There are approximately 51 trillion microscopic pieces of plastic, weighing 269,000 tons. That is just not on, and we truly need to do something about this. The likes of Seabins who ryan really values, does such a great job at emphasising the damage this causes.
- Once the plastic is in the ocean, it decomposes very slowly, breaking into tiny pieces known as microplastics, which can enter the marine food chain and become incredibly damaging to sea life. The main source of ocean plastic pollution is land-based—80% of plastic in the ocean originates on land.
- Marine wildlife such as seabirds, whales, fish and turtles mistake plastic waste for prey; most then die of starvation as their stomachs become filled with plastic. They also suffer from lacerations, infections, reduced ability to swim, and internal injuries.
These are just a few of the reasons that help us realise planting a tree and removing plastic from our oceans is a great idea. Since the brands foundation is on and follows the mission of a sustainable future that protects our planet, implementing one of the most effective ways to combat climate change seemed like a no brainer.
